Hatsune Miku Symphony 2017: Event, CD, and Blu-ray Information Revealed!

The Hatsune Miku Symphony 2017 recently concluded both of its performances at the Festival Hall in Osaka on November 17th, and at the Tokyo International Forum on November 29th. This event featured orchestral versions of songs originally performed by Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, and Kagamine Len, and were performed by the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra on the 17th, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra on the 29th.

For those who could not make it to the show in person, we’ve compiled some information on the sights and sounds of the event, and on the upcoming Blu-ray, CD, and even figurine releases!

The show opened up with a screening of the promotional video that can be watched online, before going straight into the full version of the featured song: the 2017 version of MITCHIE M’s “Mirai Jokyoku (Future Overture).”

Following the opening performance, Miku herself came onscreen to introduce the orchestra members and the conductor, Hirofumi Kurita, as well as thank everyone for celebrating her recent 10th anniversary.

The show then continued on with several songs that would be instantly familiar to longtime Hatsune Miku fans, such as “Tell Your World” or “Senbonzakura” (depending on which show you were attending), and “The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku.” After that came a special medley of songs for Kagamine Rin and Len, who will soon be celebrating their 10th anniversary as well. These include “Meltdown,” “Kokoro,” and “Daughter/Servant of Evil.”

Just like last year’s concert, this year also included a “SEGA Project DIVA Corner” with a pair of trademark songs by ryo, “ODDS & ENDS” and “Melt.” This was followed by one of the new songs to this year’s show, “Ghost Rule” by DECO*27. Then came the intermission, where a special video message from Saki Fujita and Asami Shimoda – voice providers for Miku and the Kagamine pair, respectively – was played for the audience. Also new to this year’s concert was the “Mini-Compilation of Hatsune Miku Songs Corner,” where the orchestra played a medley of “Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru,” “Ievan Polkka,” “Nyan Cat,” and “Koneko no Paya Paya” entirely in pizzicato. Those orchestra members who weren’t plucking their instruments joined in by waving glow sticks, and encouraged the audience to the same, creating a spectacle uncommonly seen at a symphony orchestra performance.

The biggest surprise of the evening, however, occurred at the Tokyo show’s “VocaloP Pickup Corner,” a segment where they highlight the works of a single producer. While the Osaka show featured the works of JimmyThumbP, the Tokyo show proved to be quite a different beast when none other than Mikudayo came onstage, wearing alien antennas and saying “I’m Nayutalien, and I’ve taken over Mikudayo’s body!” What followed was a surprise medley of four Nayutalien songs (“Andromeda Andromeda,” “Dance Robot Dance,” “Reverse Universe,” and “Alien Alien“) with Mikudayo dancing to each of them!

The silliness didn’t end there, though. With the audience calling for an encore, DeadballP then appeared onscreen with Miku for a round of yakyuken while the orchestra played “Nugeba ii tte mon janai! (Don’t Just Take Your Clothes Off!)” The encore continued with a medley of “Po Pi Po” and “Luka Luka★Night Fever,” which got the audience clapping along.

However, things mellowed out for the show’s conclusion with beautiful orchestral renditions of the inspiring “Hajimete no Oto” and “Sakura no Ame.” The performance then came to a close with a standing ovation.
